Obama: Legalizing Pot Won’t Grow Economy
“The answer is, no, I don't think that is a good strategy to grow our economy,” the president said. His answer prompted applause from the audience.
Huh, no kidding? There may or may not be good arguments out there for legalizing marijuana...but growing the economy? Please. I can't think of a LESS productive member of society than a pot-smoker.
"I can't think of a LESS
"I can't think of a LESS productive member of society than a pot-smoker."
Really? Think harder. It will come to you.

?????????????????????????
In other words, I've come in
In other words, I've come in contact with quite a few people who were/are non productive members of society. The reasons making them that way had nothing to do with pot - if they even smoked it at all. Not to mention, I used to work with some people - a LONG time ago who did pot every now and then. However, when they showed up at work, they did their jobs just fine. Some even had more responsibility than I did at that time and had no problem carrying out their duties. Nor did they have any problem in achieving well deserved promotions.

You go girl
You go girl, I agree, I have seen that too! Now if it was a drunk, NO, they couldnt do thier job. I have in the Past known some of the same people Julie, and they went to work and held down a good job. Dont get me wrong-before the HATE MAIL starts, I am not for or against it and I do not smoke it!. Just stating a Fact.
Well, the bottom line is
Well, the bottom line is that a drug is a drug. Whether you're talking Tylenol, advil, pot or cocain(sp). The only differences are that:
- some are eaiser to get to than others (and less expensive),
- some are more adictive than others and some will kill you quicker (ESPECIALLY if you abuse them)
- some are illegal
The thing all these drugs have in common is that if your body doesn't need them - it's stupid to put them in your body. However, that's true for ANYTHING we do and put inside of our bodies. IMO.
My computer won't play the video clip but I think I found it on you tube so I'm assuming I've seen the correct one. A LOT can be said on both sides of the fence about this subject matter. Could legalizing pot boost the economy? Stranger things have actually happened but I also haven't looked into the facts in a long time so I would definately like to refresh my memory on the subject first.
Not to mention. I've had conversations with a few cops out there. Many of them have stated (through the years) that they would MUCH rather pull someone over who has smoked pot as compared to someone who is drunk. According to what I've been told - the pot smokers are easy to get along with. A drunk driver usually wants to pick a fight with the officer which is what usually lands them a night in jail. That's not to say I would rather see a pot smoker behind the wheel. That's irresponsible and stupid! However, it's just as irresponsible to take a bunch of cold and/or allergy medicine and get behind the wheel of a car when you're feeling a bit "loopy" or "foggy". It's just as dangerous.
A drug is a drug. IMO

drugs and medications
Just a quick comment. My wife has Crohn's disease. My son has asthma and food allergies. All three ailments are severe and chronic (no pun intended). We have tried a variety of herbal/natural/homeopathic remedies. Some have worked. Some haven't. At the end of the day, my wife and son would both be dead without really expensive modern pharmaceuticals. I like my wife and son. I'm glad that they're not dead. I guess that's what would put things like Remicade and Pulmicort in a separate category from crack and ecstasy in my mind.
My grandma actually suffers
My grandma actually suffers from crohn's, so I know a bit about it. (I actually thought I suffered from it as well....the results of my colonoscopy(sp) disagreed with my suspissions though). My sister - like your son - suffers from athsma as well. She, my mother and I all suffer from fibromyalgia. I'm not on any medication *specifically* for it though, however, my mother and my sister both take something (I know what it is - I just can't spell it) for theirs from time to time. I DO, however, take medication to treat clinical depression (which tends to help a bit with my own fibro. symtoms (I believe anyway).
My only point in sharing that with you is that I DO understand what you're saying. However, if you look back through the centuries, cannabis, opium, morphine, were all used to treat pain (and suppossedly, opium was also used to treat anxiety). We now know these drugs are HIGHLY adictive! Which is why - in the US at least - these drugs are not used by the medical community. (Morphine I'm not sure about although I would think it's NOT in use by physicians here - but I will leave the door open).
The thing is that just because a drug is illegal doesn't make the drug morally wrong within it's own right. (Anything can become illegal). It's just because that society makes a substance illegal, that substance will be looked at as "wrong" and/or "taboo". Everyone has their own opinion about this. That's cool. It's just although my medication helps keep the chemicals in my brain balanced and level doesn't mean that someone else can't use my medication for a quick "high". My medication could also be deemed "unsafe" and it could also be made illegal at any time. However, that would not change the fact that my medication does me a world of good.:-) Unfortunately, making it illegal WOULD change my status from law abiding citizen to a criminal considering I have the substance in my possession. Just something to think about.

Ok, I didn't mean to put ALL
Ok, I didn't mean to put ALL of the last sentance in italics but - whatever.:-)
