Starting A Local Twoshirts Group
You must sign up to participate. It's free and only takes a minute or two. Here are a few pointers to help get you familiar with the twoshirts website:
- Creating Your AccountWe need an e-mail address in order to reach you in case there's a problem, but it doesn't appear in your public profile and we won't share it with anyone. Don't worry, we won't sell your information and we don't send spam (we hate that too). Twoshirts is a private community. We're free of advertisers and committed to protecting your information.
- Editing Your Profile
The first thing you'll notice after registration is that we ask you to fill out your profile. You can't use the website until you complete this step. Just click on the "Edit Profile" link in the profile menu at the top of the page. It looks like this:

This is public information that others can see, so think about what you want to share. You don't have to share your full name if you don't want to. Some choose to use their first and last name, others choose to just use their first name.
- Using Your "My Twoshirts" Menu
Once you've registered and logged-in, you'll notice a new menu has appeared in the right-hand sidebar: this is your "My Twoshirts" menu. You'll use this to post new items to the listings, start new discussion forum topics, share stories of generosity with the Twoshirts Admin Team, invite your friends to join Twoshirts, etc.
Take some time to use this menu and explore all your options. You'll be using it quite a bit while on the site. This menu disappears whenever you're logged-out.
The only thing better than getting free stuff is giving free stuff away to those who need it! This kind of radical generosity is the heart of the twoshirts community. Here are a few suggestions for getting started:
- List the items you're willing to give
Click the "Post Item to Give" link in your "my twoshirts" menu in the right-hand sidebar to add items to the twoshirts listings. Be sure to add good descriptions and details. You can even upload a pictures! Your listing will look like this:

When you're interested in an item like this, simply click the "View Item button." On the detailed page you can ask questions about the item or claim it. An e-mails goes out to the owner and the two people involved work out the details of delivery.
- List the Items You Need
Creating a listing of your needs works exactly the same way, only it starts by clicking the "Post Item You Need" link on your "my twoshirts" menu in the right hand sidebar. Needed Items look like this:

When you can fill a need like this for someone, simply view the item detail and click the button to "Fulfill This Need." Again, an e-mail goes out and the two parties involved work out the details for delivery.
We've created Twoshirts Groups to help you and your friends impact poverty right in your town. We believe grass-roots efforts by ordinary people can do more good than bureaucratic programs.

If there's already a twoshirts group in your area you can search for it on the groups page and subscribe in order to receive regular messages from them about their activities and ideas.
